Share your Wisdom
A Former staff (’10-’11) and current McGill medical student Natalie Mathews wants to know what pieces of advice your family would give to families newly diagnosed with childhood cancer and compile these pieces of wisdom into a book for these families! Any pieces of advice (practical, personal, silly, heartfelt) would be helpful! What do you wish you had known at the time of diagnosis? 1 year later? Do any foods still taste good with chemo? Should No More Chemo Cake be chocolate or vanilla? What should new pediatric cancer patients and their families know that their doctors might not tell them?
Please send as many submissions as you like to firstname.lastname@example.org by March 1, 2014! Natalie will be working with McGill Medicine’s Pediatrics Interest Club to compile a book that can be offered to the oncology teams at various children’s hospitals such that these books can then be offered to families diagnosed with childhood cancer at the appropriate time. For each tidbit of advice that you would like to have credited, please provide the corresponding family member’s first name, age, and relationship to the patient. An electronic version of the final product will be made available to Camp Trillium. A special thanks to the amazing families of Camp Trillium for inspiring this project!
We want to thank Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson, who is donating a private box at the Air Canada Centre to the families of Camp Trillium, to attend Toronto Maple Leafs home games! And that’s not all – after the game, David Clarkson also comes to the box to meet and greet our campers!
This initiative, which has been named Clarky’s Corner, has brought joy and excitement to so many of our young campers, and we can thank him enough for this amazing treat!
