Camp Trillium is about more than just camp – it’s about providing an environment of hope, love and happiness for children with cancer and their entire family. It’s about getting back to normal from a scenario that is anything but. Sometimes, that goal requires us to look outside the “camp” box for our next opportunity.
This is where our community programs come in. These programs take place in major cities across Ontario, and allow us to bring the spirit of Camp Trillium directly to our campers. One program that has been getting a lot of attention lately is the Clinic Program. The Clinic Program consists of bringing volunteers to inpatient and outpatient oncology wards in Ontario, where they will engage and support patients who are awaiting or undergoing treatments or procedures, as well as siblings of the patients. We’ve operated clinic programs for over 30 years in a variety of ways, and we’re very excited to enhance these services.
Camp Trillium has accepted an invitation from McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton, to expand our clinic program in their new 3Y oncology unit! We will be visiting patients and families in 3Y on a weekly basis. This is in addition to our existing program in the 3F outpatient unit, which we run from Monday to Friday every week.
To facilitate the growth in our clinic programs, we have also a Clinic Liaison – Tyler Steeves! If you’ve attended our residential camps at Rainbow Lake in the past 10+ years, you’ve no doubt met Tyler, who has filled almost every role, from special friend, waterfront director, and even assistant director. He has been one of our most dedicated volunteers, not only at camp, but at fundraising events and initiatives as well, and always raising the profile of Camp Trillium. Tyler will be in charge of our relationship with McMaster Children’s Hospital, recruiting and training volunteers, and exploring new opportunities to expand our clinic programs. We couldn’t be more excited about having Tyler join our team!
